Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure wherein a doctor lifts and tightens the upper and lower eyelids. Commonly known as an “eyelid lift,” the surgery is considered to be of particular benefit to patients with “hooding” eyelids (a side effect that is common with age). Eyelid lifts can now be performed under local anesthetic in-office. The recovery is easy, and the downtime is minimal.
How Do Eyelid Lifts Work?
Eyelid lifts are performed in the comfort of our office by experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons. A numbing injection in the eye area makes the process comfortable for patients. The surgeon will cut along the creases of your eyelids, to trim sagging skin and muscle, and to remove excess fat. After the excess tissue is removed, your surgeon joins the skin with tiny stitches. The process takes approximately 2 hours. We recommend about 1 week of “social downtime” to recover.
Patients who suffer from hooded eyelids, frown lines, crow’s feet, and tired-looking eyes will greatly benefit from this rejuvenating treatment. Results are immediate. Redness, swelling, and minimal bruising may appear post-procedure. Cooling masks and ice may be helpful in managing these side effects.
Absolute contraindications to this surgery include any pathologic condition of the eyelids or orbital structures.
Relative contraindications include any medical conditions that might alter the patient’s response to the local anesthesia, or unrealistic expectations on the part of the patient.
